How do I reinstall pt3 on my computer that crashed?

Postby oddeye » Wed Aug 03, 2011 10:55 pm

Two things, how do I re-install it, don't think I have the key anywhere (I'm sure it's here in that profile) but can I just reinstall it?

2nd thing is which way is the best to put back my hands in the DB, I saved the processed HH and the database itself as far as I can tell. (friend helped me mostly).

You can get your code at any time from My Account > Registration Codes in the Side Navigation bar. Just install PT3 and enter your code.
Depending on how you saved the database, you should be able to recover it. Do you have a Backup of your database, or the PostgreSQL "data" folder?
Alternatively, and especially if you play cash games rather than tournaments, you'll probably find it easier to re-import from the hand histories. (Tournaments can be a little more complicated depending on which site you play at, since not many sites write results information to file.)

I have a similar problem, in that my laptop's hard drive was dying. I bought a new one and managed to clone the boot sectors and Linux partitions on to the new drive, but the Windows 7 partition didn't want to clone. I have since reinstalled Windows onto its partition, along with PT3 and PostgreSQL. After several attempts, I have now gotten the old Windows 7 NTFS partition mounted, via a USB adapter, on my main Linux box.

Importing the old database shouldn't be a problem, except that I don't know exactly where to find it. Would you be so kind as to point me to the proper directory? I am trying to access the old drive as little as possible before it completely dies.

Thank you.

If you have the original hand histories it will probably be easiest to import them into your new database, rather than trying to recover the actual database off the old drive. By default they will be in the PokerTracker 3\Processed folder. If you can access that on the old drive copy the whole folder to your new drive and Manual Import from there.

If I had the original hand histories I wouldn't need help. Is there someone here with a clue?

Thanks for the non-answer.

So, does anyone actually know where the database file(s) live(s)? I managed to back up
"\\Program\\ Files\\ \\(x86\)/PostgreSQL/8.3/data" and "Users\\postgresql" before the drive crapped out again.

If you still have the entire intact "data" folder from the old PostgreSQL installation you should be able to recover your database.
Please follow the guide in the Documentation to uninstall and reinstall PostgreSQL - after you uninstall, copy the old "data" folder into the same place on the new drive, and then when you reinstall it should connect to the existing data.

PokerTracker saves these for you. Are you absolutely sure you deleted them?
