Postgres error on installation

Open up the command prompt. Then change the directory to your PostgreSQL bin directory. Typically:

[codet85]cd "C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.2\bin"[/codet85]

Then try manually running initdb:

[codet85]initdb -A Trust -E SQL_ASCII --locale=en_US -U postgres -d[/codet85]

Then show us a screenshot of the output.

I think he means once you've tried reinstalling again, and been hit by the initdb error box.

Did you open the command prompt immediately and run those commands?

Do you have a PostgreSQL directory under your Program Files? Your directory structure may be different which causes them to fail.

The first command simply changes the directory and if that does not work then the second command will not be able to run.

Can you find your bin directory under the PostgreSQL/8.2 directory? Go to that directory and run the 2nd command I provided then please show us a screenshot.

There is no "bin" in the 8.2 folder though, just "data" folder and "tmp" folder.

Is that significant?

Also initdb.pwd and initdb.bat are in the "tmp" folder.
