Postgres Install Error... tried everything

Ok i get this error when i get to the "starting services" part of my installation "service 'PostgreSQL Databaseserve 8.3' (pgsql-8.3) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privledges to start system services."

Ok i am an administrator, have no anti-virus programs, or firewalls, i have done complete install/reinstall via the manual install guide, i am on windows XP home edition, im pulling my hair out at this point i cant find out what the problem is.

Just installed it on another machine at my house running XP installed just fine... its my sisters computer tho so i cant use it

Please select the last few files in C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.3\data\pg_log (they're dated so just pick the recent ones), right-click and choose 'Send To Compressed/zipped Folder', then attach the zip file to a ticket on the Support system, and link to this thread in the reference field of the ticket so that we can investigate.

I've been experiencing the exact same problem. The install goes fine until it gets to "starting services" and then it pops the error message. Damn frustrating not being able to use PT3 at all.

Could you please attach those logs to a support ticket as well? That will help us in diagnosing exactly what is causing this problem for you.

the log file is totally empty.

I have only one account on my windows installation so it obviously has adminstrator rights.

This error occurs as a result of anti-virus, anti-spyware, or anti-spam software not allowing system services to be installed. Disable these programs and attempt to install again. These issues have been known to happen with IE 8 Beta 2, NOD 32, Norton Antivirus, F-Secure Antivirus, ZoneAlarm and Spampal. Once PostgreSQL has been successfully installed you may reactivate your third-party software.

The log file is empty on mine as well, i deleted all my anti virus software even went through the registry... still nothing. My sisters computer has NEVER had a firewall or anti-virus installed, and it installed just fine, how can i make sure that some settings fromt he AV's are completely undone ?

I was now able to install postgreSQL without any problems after changing my firewall and av softwares from kerio+avg to f-secure.
