Can't create backup of database

Postby BigSlick0977 » Mon Feb 09, 2009 12:25 pm

I have been in this forum for the last 3 hours searching for an answer as to why I can't backup my database. I'm using PT3 build 4. I tried to do the backup using pgAdmin III, but I wasn't sure if another line was going to tell me when the backup was complete or not, so after 45 mins I closed pgAdmin III down and opened the command prompt. After typing the command and naming my backup 'PT3DB' it just said that "PT3DB does not exist". What am I doing wrong?

Before I tried using the command prompt approach I noticed that the size of the backup file was 0 bytes and I couldn't delete it as it was still being used. I ended the pg_dump.exe process in Task Manager and I could delete it. Why was pg_dump.exe still running and how long should it take to backup my DB? I only have 5,000 hands in it, so surely it shouldn't take too long.

5000 hands shouldn't take that long.

You could also just backup your hands from the C:\Program Files\PokerTracker 3\Processed directory which you could always reimport from as necessary, since 5000 hands is such a small number.

At the command prompt, type \l and hit enter and it'll list all of the databases in PostgreSQL for you.

It might be 'PT3 DB' with a space, and that would cause it to think that the database you asked for 'PT3DB' is invalid (because they are differently named, even though it's very close).
