Opponent Hole Cards Query

Postby vivirelsueno » Thu Sep 17, 2009 10:38 am

Hello,

I would like to do research on betting patterns of the public in general and not just one opponent. Is it possible to search for all hands played by my opponents where they showed down, say, AA, or KK?

In other words, the query would contain all hands played by me where any opponent showed down XY, where X and Y are any two hole cards that I designate.

Furthermore, I would be interested in doing a query that, for example, contained all hands played by me where any opponent showed down XY, where X and Y are any two hole cards that I designate AND where the opponent 3-bet.

Thank you for any assistance or advice you can give me which will lead me in the correct direction.

Yes, you can do this as a custom report.

You want to use the filter:

id_hand in (SELECT id_hand from holdem_hand_player_statistics where holdem_hand_player_statistics.id_holecard = X OR holdem_hand_player_statistics.id_holecard = Y)

Where X and Y are the values of the holecards you want (see this post for the hole card values; AA is 1, KK is 26. You can add more holecard pairs in this fashion with extra OR clauses.

Make sure you filter on active player to see only hands you played. This will give you hands by default where you have AA/KK yourself, so you can filter those out using the simple filters (or leave them in at your discretion).

Thanks for the quickly reply.

I created a report with the filter you suggested...but I am unsure how this allows to me to see the specific hands so I can analyze how the players played these hands. Is there away to do that?

I would like to, for example, validate that a small three bet by an opponent is AA, KK, or AK, say 90% of the time. Thanks.

That's a very different question than what I thought you were asking, and the problem there is that it's incredibly difficult to get the answer you want. The biggest reason is that people fold - if not preflop, then postflop. If 40% of the hands in question don't reach showdown, that's a huge source of error.

However, what you can see is how often people have (AA, KK, AK) among hands that do reach showdown in the sample you specify, but you don't want to do it like I previously said.

What you want to do is create a custom stat that counts up how many times peopl have the hands you're interested in, and do this in the Holdem Cash Player Statistics section.

Let's say you call it cnt_hands_interesting:
sum(if[holdem_hand_player_statistics.id_holecard < 4 OR holdem_hand_player_statistics.id_holecard = 26, 1, 0])

This counts up how often you had holecard pairs 1, 2, 3 or 26 (AA, AKs, AKo or KK). Create a custom stat that displays that value divided by how many hands went to showdown (cnt_wtsd), then add it to your report. This gets you the percentage of the time that they have the hand in question of hands that went to showdown (as you don't have hand data otherwise).

Add whatever filters you normally want (e.g. Hero 3bets), then look at the value of your new stat.
