Variables Note Tracker

Postby Barlin63 » Thu May 10, 2012 7:16 am

I am working with note tracker a bit and I would like to have some more variables to use. I now only see variables for ranges and board texture but why not:
- Stack size
- Position at table (UTG, EP, MP, LP, Blinds)
- Relative position to me
- Bet size, Stack size, M-zone, Bet size relative to stack size

This to learn a bit more from the action. Was the opponent splashing around, desperate because of stack size etc. For me it would be something to add to group for instance opening ranges by M zone and Position etc. I understand that you don't want to many variables because it will generate too many lines but maybe split in only two or three groups might help to identify the style of each player.

Basically the question is if there will be more variables available at some point of time.

It is possible we will add more; it is not set in stone at this point in time. One issue that we want to be careful about is keeping things readable. I do not expect, for example, that we will be adding hand strength, because a big list of 15 or 20 different hand strengths is pretty much impossible to read effectively.

I see and that is indeed the con.

I am indeed looking for something that does not interfere too much with the readability but you might want to put things in a kind of abbreviation like you did with Overall [O], Preflop [P] etc. I am sure that would helped me a lot. Maybe we can discuss the variables here in the forum. What do other players believe that could be useful. I now copied a rule three times and changed some selection criteria to get the job done and that also just works fine.

Lots of rules which trigger rarely is definitely an option. There have been a few posts which have been good on this topic and it's definitely something we're paying close attention to.

Will there be a way to change the times something occurs from 5/10 to the 50% equivilant?

When playing it is just another calculating I have to make which slows things down considerably when I see something like 15/39. A percentage would be much easier to digest and use quickly. Also, a feature for a note to only appear once it has occurred a certain amount of times eg. The note for a villain raising the turn with draws will only appear in the notes once he has done it on 5 different occasions

If you want to see a percentage what you really want is a custom stat, not a note - but I'll be happy to help you build it if you tell me a bit about what you're looking for.

It would be stats such as 'called preflop raise, called cbet, folded to turn bet' for both in and out of position 'folded when scare card hit on the turn'.

Most of the stats i want to experiment with are multi street stats that would take huge sample sizes to obtain (but this isn't a problem as i have >10k samples on some guys). They would be very specific stats that would only be required in specific situation but i feel could be fairly powerful if the situations would arise enough

Also bet sizing stats, which i'm not sure if you can create or not. Just basic stuff that would tell what types of hands they are betting and with how much

'called preflop raise, called cbet, folded to turn bet' is the same as Fold to T CBet - and you can set that to IP/OOP using the Has Position item property for the stat. You would need a custom stat for folding to a scare card - but I think you'll find that's a very difficult thing to quantify exactly no matter which way you do it - using NoteTracker or a custom stat.

Regarding bet sizing - the problem with putting that variable together is figuring out where to draw the line. Imagine a guy bet 49% once and 51% once, would you want to see {40-50%, 50-60%} ? If it's in 5% increments that might lead to a real mess to read at times.

But if someone were to say bet 49% with a FD and then bet 51% with a flush draw i would still see that overall they are betting their flush draws in a range around 1/2 pot. So when they do a 2/3s pot bet i can use this to my advantage. A range is all you need and obviously if their bet sizing has a wide range then i wouldn't be using the stat/note to help me make a decision. It is a stat that will only help if someone plays a certain range of hands in a certain way.

In terms of the scare card stat, surely a note can be made to see when they fold to a A,K or Q on the turn and possibly incorporate when a FD comes in too. Although i am probably very wrong
